About Laura

Laura Moore is a local Annapolitan and enjoys sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. Many of her designs reflect a nautical influence. She also enjoys frequent trips to Manhattan to stay current on the latest trends for her clients, and to purchase stones. Laura's original jewelry designs primarily feature sterling and fine silver, gemstones, freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystals. The wire-wrapping line of home accents includes serving pieces, ice buckets, wine glasses and more, decorated with an artistic flair. Laura is also a faculty member at Anne Arundel Community College, where she teaches jewelry design courses.

About the Products

Only the highest quality stringing materials, beads, findings and gemstones are used in Laura's designs. The pieces are made with gemstones, freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystal and some glass, paired with sterling silver (.925) or gold-filled beads and findings. Some fine silver (.999) is also used in original pendants and earrings. Lesser quality materials such as plastics and base metal are generally not used. If you would like details on any of the products, simply ask. The availability of certain beads varies and beads are often discontinued, so please allow for substitutions in the pieces. If there is anything that you must have, please specify so that every effort can be made to include that bead in your design. Custom orders are accepted.

The wire-wrapped products are stainless steel, glass or acrylic, wrapped with tarnish free aluminum wire and glass beads. We generally do not recommend putting products in the dishwasher.

Products are available on this Web site, via art shows, select stores and through personal jewelry parties and consultations. Please visit the show, store and contact pages of the Web site for more information on how to purchase, or e-mail laura@lauramooredesigns.com

What is gold-filled?

Gold-filled describes when a layer of 10kt or better gold is mechanically bonded with heat and pressure to one or more surfaces of the supporting base metal, then rolled or drawn to a given thickness. In the jewelry industry, the quantity of gold must be at least 1/20th by weight of the total product. Gold-filled beads are of a higher quality than gold plate and generally work well mixed with heavier glass beads or gemstones. Solid gold beads tend to be too soft and may dent. Unlike gold-plated, gold-filled beads avoid chipping and scratching, and last longer.
